Traveling to Kenya is now easier with the Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system.
Instead of applying for a traditional visa, eligible travelers can complete their application online and receive authorization before arrival.
The process is straightforward, allowing tourists, business travelers, and transit passengers to obtain approval quickly.
Who Needs a Kenya eTA?
Most foreign visitors must obtain an eTA before traveling to Kenya. The electronic authorization is required for tourists, business travelers, and transit passengers.
Some nationalities may be exempt, so it is advisable to check the latest requirements before applying.
How to Apply for a Kenya eTA?
The Kenya eTA application is a simple online process that requires a few key steps:
- Complete the Application Form – Provide your personal details, travel plans, and passport information.
- Upload Required Documents – These include:
- A scanned copy of your passport bio page (valid for at least six months).
- A recent passport-size photo.
- Proof of accommodation booking or an invitation letter (for business or visiting relatives).
- Pay the eTA Fee – Fees vary depending on the type of eTA. Payments are made online using a credit or debit card.
- Receive Your eTA – Processing typically takes 2-5 business days. Once approved, the eTA is emailed to you. Print a copy to present at immigration upon arrival.

Types of Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization
Kenya offers five types of eTA, each serving a different purpose:
- Tourist eTA – Single Entry: For sightseeing, tourism, and visiting relatives. It is valid for 90 days from the approval date, and travelers may stay in Kenya for up to 90 days from the date of arrival.
- Tourist eTA – Multiple Entry: Available only for U.S. citizens, this authorization is valid for five years and allows multiple visits for tourism and family visits.
- Business eTA – Single Entry: Designed for those attending conferences, meetings, or professional events in Kenya. It is valid for 90 days from approval, with a maximum stay of 90 days.
- Business eTA – Multiple Entry: Issued exclusively to U.S. citizens, this authorization remains valid for five years for business-related visits.
- Transit eTA – Single Entry: For travelers passing through Kenya on their way to another destination. It is valid for 90 days from the issue date but only allows a short stay during transit.
